Blasphemy of the Spirit

“Therefore I say to you, any sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven people, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven. “Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come” (Matt. 12:31-32). These words of Jesus can tighten up one’s stomach with heaps of uneasiness. Many believers who have stumbled in thought, word, and deed often wrongly worry with fears of having committed this sin. The blasphemy of the Spirit is really a serious sin committed in unbelief. The blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is really not about a Christian losing their salvation. Jesus is not speaking to His followers; rather, He is addressing those Pharisees who attributed His works to Beelzebub (Matt. 12:22-29). These were not followers of Jesus who apostatized; rather, they were the antagonist to His ministry. They grumbled about the disciples picking grain of wheat plants

Myths and Truths about Mormonism

Here's a new blog on " Myths and Truths about Mormonism "

Come to Me…

There are many instances where the church loses sense of her ethos and follows after the vanities of a sinful and fallen world. Even the very sacred message of salvation is not immune to corruption of self-righteousness. Some get caught up into the game of “we” vs. “they” or the “in” vs. the “out” group. They imagine a list of “dos” and “don’ts,” and they keep to that imaginary list. Like “don’t smoke,” “don’t chew,” and “do go with girls that do.” They even convince themselves that is what the “Christian” life is all about. Yet, God has something else in mind. Many in first century Israel yearned for God to send a Messiah who would lead them into an end time battle that would destroy all their enemies, namely the Romans, and establish the eschatological kingdom they envisaged. God had something better in mind, and the everlasting kingdom that He intended would begin with His Son upon the cross. The eternal life Jesus Christ offered would be on nobody else’s terms save God’s alone.

Flutes, Dirges, and Judgment…

“We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.” God entered into this world in the person of Jesus Christ as part of a plan to redeem lost sinners. The Lord had even prepared a prophet named John the Baptist to herald the arrival of the Christ. None of this was out of the blue; rather, God had spoken through the Old Testament prophets that a Messiah would be coming. However, when the long awaited Messiah had arrived, many people rejected Him. Jesus compared those who rejected Him as mutinous children resting opportunities to have fun with others. “We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn,” said the Lord (Matt. 11:17). John the Baptist called people to repent; yet, many wept not for their sin, but dismissed the Baptizer as a demoniac. Jesus Christ, the Son of Man, pronounced the arrival of God’s kingdom, and there was every reason to celebrate; yet, many complained that He was a “drunkard

Origins: Seeing the Fingerprints of God in the Creation and in the Word

Something I have been wrestling with concerns the message of Genesis 1-11 in relationship to the origin of the universe. The whole issue of the Bible, and science. One of the challenges is attempting to understand the text in light of its Ancient Near East context and determining what the biblical writer sought to communicate. What did Moses want to tell the Israelites wandering in the wilderness some thirty-three-hundred years ago? Complicating matters are contemporary questions related to geology, astrophysics, astronomy, and other sciences addressing the question on the age and origin of the universe. In what way does the biblical text relate to these sciences? Moses does not appear to be directly answering questions on astrophysics, biology, genetics, or subjects in science. The prophet sought to teach people how to enter into a relationship with Yahweh, the one who spoke the universe into existence. Science addresses one set of questions whereas the Bible a different set of quest
