The other day the Kelly File was on, and Megyn was interviewing President-Elect Donald Trump supporter former Navy SEAL Carl Higbie on the legality of registration for immigrants from Muslim countries. He then mentioned Iran as an example of this being done in the past, along with the Japanese during World War II. When pressed on the morality of Japanese Internment, Higbie did some fancy word dancing saying, There is precedent for it, and I’m not saying I agree with it…Look the President needs to protect America first, and if that means having people that are not protected under our constitution have some sort of registry so we can understand, until we can identify the true threat and where its coming from, I support it. I was watching President Barack Obama’s Oval Office Address regarding threat of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) [1], particularly in light of the recent shootings in San Bernardino, California. In this speech the President made a few statements concerning Islam of significance to Christians in general and to particularly to those into apologetics. One of the things President Obama pointed out was the San Bernardino perpetrators “had gone down the dark path of radicalization, embracing a perverted interpretation of Islam that calls for war against America and the West.” Later on the President made the qualification, ISIL does not speak for Islam. They are thugs and killers, part of a cult of death, and they account for a tiny fraction of more than a billion Muslims around the world—including millions of patriotic Muslim Americans who reject their hateful ideology. I came across this article the other day: “ Malaysia's top court: ‘Allah’ for Muslims only .” It was quite the provocative headline, and ruling, which censored the use of “Allah” for God in Roman Catholic newspaper articles, as clarified in “ Malaysian court to Christians: You can't say ‘Allah ’” This might never really strike a chord in many American evangelicals, as a good number of them would may very well get a bit nervous and perturbed at hearing someone referring to the deity revealed in the Scriptures as “Allah,” albeit Allah has be used among many Arabic speaking Christians (See, for example, “ Allah Does Not Belong to Islam .”) What is also unsettling is an example where the court tells the press what words can be used in publications. It was simply disheartening to read about the 12 killed in Afghanistan amid protests over reported Quran burning . Pastor Terry Jones’ reported Qur’an burning is certainly something to be condemned. One could decry, “Lord, save us from Christians;” yet, could the very acts of Pastor Jones be worthy of being bestowed the sacred title of “Christian”? The first followers of Jesus paid suffered as Christians during the persecution of a megalomaniac Caesar named Nero, one can only wonder for what good reason Pastor Jones can be counted among the brethren? The very act of burning a sacred book is shameful and ultimately drags the name of Christ in the mud. Jesus Christ taught, “Salt is good; but if the salt becomes unsalty, with what will you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another” (Mark 9:50). There’s no place for “us versus them” for the people called to be salt and light to the nations, and “all those who take up the sword will perish by the sword...

Today, I read the following Associated Press article: WORLDmag.com Community Blog Archive Petraeus warns about Quran burning Pertraus warns, “Images of the burning of a Qur'an would undoubtedly be used by extremists in Afghanistan—and around the world—to inflame public opinion and incite violence.” This comes in response to the plans of Dove World Outreach Center led by Terry Jones to hold a Qur'an burning on the ninth anniversay of 9/11. I think Pertraus is most certainly correct. Christians can never go the route of repaying evil for evil. Such a conscious act of desecration is unwarranted to those called to be peacemakers. Instead of defiling a book that Muslim hold in high esteem, why not seek another way? Cannot a Christian faithfully testify to that God has spoken to us though Moses and the prophets in the Old Testament, and Christ and the apostles in the New Testament, and what they have offered has been faithfully handed down to us without resorting to violence? Browsing the news online, I came across Time magazine Matti Friedman piece entitled Clashes Erupt at Sacred Jerusalem Site. It concerned a clash between Muslim worshippers and Israeli riot police, which ended in some injuries, particularly a Palestinian woman who suffered a head injury from a rubber bullet. This all happened near the Western wall, perhaps a artifact from the Jerusalem before it was destroyed by Rome in AD70, near the what Jews call the Temple Mount and Muslims call the Nobel Sanctuary. The trouble centers on social, political, and theological differences between Muslims and Jews in the region, but the catalyst is an Israeli decision to include two West Bank shrines on a list of national heritage sites— the site that Jews call the Cave of the Patriarchs and Muslims call the Ibrahimi mosque, and the other site is Rachel's Tomb, adjacent to the city of Bethlehem.
